Spoiler for 'Stranger Than Fiction', AKA Ashley's stupidity
Ashley and I saw 'Stranger Than Fiction' today. I highly recommend it, by the way...
This will give away one of the cute moments of the movie, so you might want to stop now. But if you don't care, read on!
The Scene:
Harold Crick runs up to Ana Pascal - the baker he has been auditing and with whom he has fallen in love - with a large cardboard box filled with paper bags, five across the length of the box and three deep. Each bag is folded over and taped with a different color of inch-wide tape.
"I've brought you flowers," Harold announces solemnly to Ana.
Ana's eyes melt.
"I want you," Harold continues.
Voiceover:
At this point, Ashley Miller's mind turns from the movie and begins contemplating the scene. Why, she wonders, did Harold bring Ana flowers in those little bags? Are there flower petals in each bag? Tilting her head, she continues, Do the different colors of tape on the bags correspond to the colors of flower petals? But why did he put the petals in those little bags like that? Little does she know, while pondering the mystery of the bags of flowers, she missed five minutes of movie dialogue. Ashley is interrupted from her musings as Ana and Harold arrive at the steps of Ana's house, still discussing the box of flowers.
Scene:
"Do you have a master list?" Ana asks of Harold.
"No," Harold replies, "I've memorized all of them."
"What's the green one," Ana challenges Harold.
"Barley flower."
"And the orange?"
"I don't remember."
Voiceover:
It is at this point that Ashley returns to her musings. I wonder what Barley Flowers look like? And then, a burst of understand hits her like a penny dropping from the top of the Eiffel Tower...Oh, they're bags of FLOUR!!!
When Ashley told me of her flower/flour conundrum, I could just hear the story in the context of the movie. It may have lost a little in the several hours since we've seen the movie, and it certainly loses something without Emma Thompson doing the voiceover, but with any luck, it captures the spirit of the movie and the hilarity of the evening!

Ashley, I'm with you on the flour/flower! I thought maybe he had put flowers in the bags, too, and I couldn't figure out why! I didn't know what the hell was going on until he said "barley flour." And the boyfriend didn't get it at first, either!
P.S. That scene might be worthy of the title Most Romantic Movie Moment Ever. Discuss among yourselves.
