Goodbye, Renfest 2005
Well, today was a beautiful day for the last day of the Maryland Renaissance Festival. After a four-day deluge, the skies cleared and the sun warmed, and it was a brisk 62 and beautiful all day.
Of course, that means it took me an hour and fifteen minutes to go from 97 to the parking lot - a grand total of maybe 8 miles. Because EVERYONE ELSE IN THE UNIVERSE decided to go to the last day of renfest on such a beautiful day.
So I got there about 3. I caught some of A Fool Named ‘O’!’s performance. I have to say, I don't enjoy it as much since he's incorporated his son. And he's changed the act slightly - he doesn't play Greensleeves on his saw anymore; he plays 'The bear climbed over the mountain'. It simply doesn't have the humor that O put into Greensleeves.
I saw everything Shakespeare's Skum did when 'lil sis and I went earlier last month, and while I could watch them all day, I wanted to be able to walk around a bit, so I skipped their act.
Which is ok, because if I hadn't, I would have missed Puke & Snot. I can't miss them - there's nothing funnier than a man's magaga being waved about in public! (Kids, ask your parents after the show.)
I had to buy a souvenir before I left - otherwise, I leave oddly dissatisfied and disappointed. I went to my favorite pottery seller, Dancing Pig Pottery, and decided on a mug much like this one:

It's the Uffington Horse, an amazing old carving in an Oxfordshire hillside. I got the mug not only because I'm obsessed with tea, and not just because I thought it was cute, but also because I once visited the Uffington horse, and I thought it would be nice to have a reminder of both the renfest and my time in Europe.

Then I had to spend time with Bev and Bec. What a drag. We talked, ate, and in general had a good time. Bev’s mom commented on how nice it is that we’re all still friends. When you think about it, it is kind of cool. It’s been 6 years since we graduated high school, and we still see each other at least once a month, and it’s always like old times. And apparently we’re pretty much the only group who’s stayed this close. I, however, have a hard time imagining what it would be like if we hadn’t stayed together. Well, let’s just say I’m glad we’re still a group, and leave it at that!
